Bank Deposit Policy Analysis and its Ingredients for Success in the Kurdistan Region
Case Study of Kurdistan International Bank/Erbil
Abstract
Banks play an important role as an intermediary between the lender and the borrower. In addition, other bank roles are being affected directly or indirectly by the deposits and how to manage those deposits. However, banks are not able to do their duties effectively due to concentrating on current account. Therefore, the researchers studied the process of depositing in private banks operating in Iraq. Moreover, this study shows the participating level of banks in providing loans for the period 2012 – 2016. The results of the study indicated that the bank is using a weak policy to attract deposit. As well as, the highest percentage of deposits was in current accounts. This is the reason beyond the weak role of banks in supporting investments and the economy. Furthermore, researchers recommended the need to reestablish trust and direct deposit funds towards loans, particularly for small and medium-sized enterprises.
